As the owner of your own company, you are probably well informed regarding the necessity of having a commercial fire system installed. At any time, a fire could break out inside your building. Sometimes this could be due to bad wiring. Other times it could be caused by your heating and cooling systems.

You will be glad to learn, however, that there are many steps you can take toward protecting yourself from a fire in your company. First, make sure that there are new batteries in your smoke and heat detectors. True, it can be hard to remember to maintain these devices, but if you want a top notch commercial fire system, you will need to keep them up to date and in good working condition.

You can also have a commercial fire sprinkler system installed in your business. Fire detectors are good, but they only warn you of a possible fire: they, or course, cannot prevent the fire from moving to other parts of your building. But if you have a sprinkler system installed in your commercial fire system, it can be programmed to automatically turn on and begin spraying water on the fire. This could save your business!

Getting out of a building when a fire is underway is also important to think about. Do your employees know what your evacuation plan is? Do you have an evacuation plan? If not, create one and then see to it that all of your staff is aware of how to implement it when and if a fire emergency occurs. For example, make sure they know where all staircases and emergency exits are.

Having portable fire extinguishers inside your building is also an important part of a good commercial fire system. Some fires are so little when they start that if they are caught soon enough, they can be put out with a simple fire extinguisher. Put lots of these in your building in places that are easy to spot. Teach your employees how to operate them, so they will be comfortable using them if the need arises. Check the extinguishers often to make sure they are in proper working order.

Finally, having good lighting is an important part of a commercial fire system. Sometimes during a fire, the electrical wiring gets damaged and that keeps the lights from coming on. Having back up security lighting will help to flood a building with light and make it easier to escape.
